Churches. They come in all shapes, can be found everywhere and they regularly attract crowds of people. Wars were waged in their name, they were torn down, rebuilt, people were persecuted, converted, burned, exploited, or have been enriched by it beyond measure. To date, churches play an incredibly important role in various religions.
In his series ‘Small Churches’ Kevin Bauman focuses particularly on the small, almost inconspicuous specimens. Away from the otherwise normally ruling pomp and gold, the churches he documented are generally unimpressive specimens with the aesthetics somewhere between a supermarket and residential buildings.
