Black wedding dresses are taboo even for the most avant-garde brides. However, the famous bridal designer Vera Wang believes that it is time for change! Her latest collection is rich in dramatic dresses in Gothic style, richly decorated with folds of tulle and chiffon, and with no white models at all. Wang had earlier flirted with various shades of gray, pink and champagne, but this was the first time that only models dressed in entirely black could be seen on the runway.
As it turns out, the inspiration for the collection was rather Halloween-appropriate. For spring, Wang looked to “witchcraft,” a concept that will surely delight the eccentric fashion world as much as it will drive away conservative brides-to-be. Interestingly, brides didn’t start wearing white until the reign of Queen Victoria, so the tradition is a fairly recent historical development. Wang’s noir wedding garb is certainly unorthodox, but if anyone is going to make a convincing case for all-black bridal, it will definitely be her.
It remains to be seen whether the vision of one of the most influential bridal designers in the world will be accepted by the future brides!
